5 Must Have RV Gadgets | A Full Time RVers Guide

Whether you're a full time RVer or a weekend camper, there are some odds and ends you might want to keep in your arsenal to make your life easier. In this series, we will share with you our tried and true must-have gadgets for living in an RV.

1. Pro Breeze Electric Mini Dehumidifier

Moisture is a real RV and boat killer. We have been surprised at the amount of moisture that builds up every night on our windshield, side windows and even on the walls! We got this mini dehumidifier, and it clears up our moisture problems like a champ. Plus, it's quiet and looks sleek. We keep this bad boy on the dashboard when we're in wetter climates, and it helps tremendously. It works great for areas up to 250 square feet, perfect for a larger coach like our 34 foot Fleetwood Bounder!

We also purchased this guy's little brother, which is perfect for our bedroom, or on days when we just need a little less dehumidifying: Pro Breeze Electric Mini Dehumidifier, 1200 Cubic Feet (150 sq ft)

2. Dri-Z-Air DZA-U Pot

Another nifty tool for dealing with humidity, this sleek moisture absorber relieves the problem of excess moisture in closed areas using nontoxic salt (calcium chloride) to reduce cabin moisture. It works without any electricity or moving parts, making it a great RV companion, especially when boondocking. As an added bonus, it's made in the USA out of recycled plastic. We keep ours in our closet, and you'd be surprised by the amount of water we pour out of the pot every few days!

We like to keep the refill crystals handy: Dri-Z-Air DZA-60 60-Ounce Refill Crystals

3. Lasko Model 100 MyHeat Personal Space Heater

We may be traveling in warmer climates, but the nights still get chilly! This little guy works great as a bedside heater on even the coldest nights! We have a few larger space heaters that we use from time to time, but this one is so handy, whisper quiet and fits almost anywhere. You can even use it to warm up your bays to keep your pipes from freezing!

4. Power Watchdog 30 Amp Smart Bluetooth Surge Protector with Auto Shutoff

We splurged a little on this purchase, but it has already proven to be well worth it. 30 amps get used up quickly, especially when you're running multiple gadgets. The Watchdog links to our phones to let us see exactly how many amps we're using, and what appliances are using the most so that we can be sure to stay under 30 amps. We can even calculate how much electricity we're using when we moochdock, as to pitch in for what we are using. What's more, this Watchdog has already saved us from a dangerous low voltage situation, as well as protected our coach with the auto shutoff feature when we were forgetful and turned on the microwave while we were already running two space heaters and the coffee pot! We are so thankful for this device, and we recommend that every RVer should have one.

5. Progressive Dynamics PD9105V TCMS Charge Wizard

It doesn't look like much, but this little gadget monitors our 6-volt deep-cycle batteries and keeps them charged with three modes: boost, normal and sleep. It keeps the batteries from unnecessarily off-gassing, which simply keeps us from having to replace the liquid as frequently. Every 14 hours it cleans the lead plates in the batteries which improves the life of the battery by 2 to 3 times or more!

This is an inexpensive way to upgrade our Inteli Power 9100 converter/charger.

There you have it!
